Borowski family combines basketball with mini-reunion

Taking part in the annual Hillcrest Invitational Basketball Tournament has been a mini family-reunion the past seven years, with Borowski family members gathering in Fergus Falls. Dr. Wes Borowski, a family medicine physician in Fergus Falls, played for the Hillcrest Comets in the early 1980s.

“We started playing with mostly family members and a few friends and called our team Generation Gap because of the wide range of ages in our family members who participated,” said Wes. “Three generations are represented.”

The oldest is Denny Wodele, father in law of Wes, who is 66 and the youngest is Andrew Klimek, Wes’s nephew, who is 14.

This past weekend was a fun one for the Borowski family who enjoyed basketball and also spending time together at the home of Wes and Sheila Borowski on Hoot Lake Drive, Fergus Falls.

Matt Borowski, son of Wes and Sheila, attends St. Cloud State University. Another son, Tim Borowski, attends M State, Fergus Falls.

Scott Brekke, husband of Wes’s niece, lives in North Branch.

Nephew Andrew Klimek resides in Barron, Wis. Nephew Trent Heimdal lives in Pine City. Nephew Austin Klimek lives in Barron, Wis., and nephew Jordan Fylling attends Valley City State College.

Zac Lewis, son in law of Sheila and Wes, lives in Fergus Falls. Denny Wodele, Wes’s father in law, lives in Nelson, Wis.

Sheila and Wes Borowski both graduated from Hillcrest Academy in 1982. Wes is a physician in family medicine in Fergus Falls, who has been part of the medical group here for eight years. He attended medical school at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.

This past weekend the 44th annual Hillcrest Invitational Basketball Tournament attracted close to 2,000 people from out of town. There were 96 basketball games played over two days, at different locations in Fergus Falls. Championship games were played at the Hillcrest Academy gymnasium on Saturday.

“This has been a wonderful time, for family and friends, in addition to some fun basketball,” said Sheila Borowski.
